2011 Commando Challenge

Enthusiastic runners did their bit for The C-Group - completing this years 10k Commando Challenge held at Woodbury, Devon

Inspired by his own experiences as a cancer patient, former Colour Sergeant Alan Hardy has been raising funds for local charities, hospices and more recently the Devon Air Ambulance for over 20 years.  This years' Commando Challenge, the tough, endurance course based charity event celebrated its 21st birthday.  Recognising the importance of providing additional support for Royal Marines in Need, Alan is including The C Group with its focus on Marines wounded in Afghanistan as one of the recipients of the Commando Challenge funds.

He has also invented a new challenge, the 17k Endurance Commando Challenge which accurately follows the route of the full endurance course commando test including all of the endurance course obstacles. This new venture, from which all funds raised will go to the Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund (RMCTF) is already proving popular.

Alan has raised close to £150k for the RMCTF and around £100k for The C Group. In recognition of his outstanding support to the Corps, Alan was awarded the Mountbatten Sword at the C Group annual Mountbatten Dinner.  The sword, presented by Lord Ivar Mountbatten was one of the swords received by Lord Louis Mountbatten at the surrender of Japanese forces at the end of WWII.

Col Toby Middleton, the new C-Group CEO and new C-Group general manager Brian Seage OBE were both there to cheer on the runners and fly the C-Group banners.
